Artificial intelligence promises fairness, precision, and efficiency. Yet when it comes to children with disabilities, the systems designed to help can often do harm. Algorithms that “read” emotions or interpret facial expressions may work well for neurotypical users but fail to recognize or respect neurodiverse ones.

The truth is that many of these tools are not built for all children. The use of biometric data from children raises deep ethical questions. Facial expressions, vocal tone, and even physiological signals like heart rate are deeply personal forms of data.
